Note to self.

Next time when buying tickets from Basel SBB to Freiburg, do not accidentally buy tickets to Fribourg instead. Fribourg is in the wrong country, it's in the wrong direction, and it's twice as far away.

Oh, and it costs twice as much, even allowing for reductions.

It's probably just as well that no ticket inspector spotted we had the wrong tickets, though I'm sure they would have understood.

Fribourg's a very nice place, though, and the old town has some beautiful architecture.

Make a point of going there if you get the chance; Morat/Murten is also a lovely old town, and the woods around the Bielersee are lovely.

We're slowly collecting Swiss cities and towns. This year, we popped over to Chur.

Easy mistake. It could happen to anyone. They have the same number of letters, after all.

Especially if you use the older spelling. To quote Wikipedia: Its name is derived from German frei (free) and Burg (fort).

Um, did I make a mistake? It only cost £20 return each, which at the time seemed about right...

Ah, yep. Should have cost about €19.80 each, return on the ICE. That's without any reductions. (The RE price is only €12.80 return, before reductions.)

Not that it really matters, it's just I was gazing at the ticket, and wondering why it said "Via Olten-Bern". Now, that's in the wrong direction. Then I looked more closely at the spelling.
