I guess there must be an airshow at Duxford.

At least, that's the only reason I can see for the Red Arrows doing a low level pass, complete with smoke trails, over our garden a moment ago.

EDIT: a check of the Duxford site doesn't list anything. On the other hand, the Red Arrows were just down in London an hour or so ago celebrating Brenda's 80th. Why they'd still be at low level 45 miles away, goodness knows. Maybe they're practising.

The reason for my initial assumption of a Duxford show was the planes being on a course that would lead them to about a mile off the end of the runway, at which point a gentle course correction would take them down the flight line.

They could also be doing a fly past at Old Warden, which is nearby. Worth a visit if you haven't been before.

Could be. Except there's nothing at Old Warden till this evening, and anyway, the Red Arrows are supposed to be going from the Queen's Flypast off to Margate.

They're lost, I tell you, lost!

Nah, it'll be the "look another practice run is a good thing as this one is _important_" can you imagine the look her queeniness would give them for getting it wrong? :)

They often do formation passes over random places en route to/from their jobs. In autumn 2004, not long after I'd moved into this flat, they flew over Cambridge in formation, almost directly over me; I emailed their PR team (to say "ooh! shiny! you made my afternoon!") who confirmed that they were returning home after a display.

Well we had *loads* of planes go past us since the flyby route for the Mall is immediately over the estate, including a Lancaster, a Hurricane and three Spitfires together.

The ex-Air Cadet and the plane geek had a lovely time spotting, while my comments were mainly restricted to "it's a big one with four engines" when asked what was flying overhead.
