We just had a phone call. And we will not be going to Swecon this year (which is a shame, because bellinghwoman would have liked to show her friends the Stockholm she knows).

Instead, we shall - all things going well - be receiving a pair of kittens. One will be a Usual Abyssinian tom, and the other will be a Fawn Abyssinian queen.

(In Aby terms, Fawn is a pinkish cream.)

Unusually, the dam is US bred, though born in the UK. (Importing a pregnant queen must have been interesting, though - I'm not sure how the quarantine period compares to the length of feline pregnancy.)

But of course.

I've been idly musing on the possibility of naming the male Tevildo, after the Lord of the Cats in Tolkein's Lost Tales.

This would be amusing, since the kittens' father is named Frodo Baggins.

(Names for the female are yet to be considered.)

If we do that, on current evidence we'd probably have to pay royalties to Christopher Tolkein.

We shall have to ask Crystalpaws how they resolved the problem.

But of course :-) We won't be able to bring them home until the end of May (they were only born yesterday afternoon!), but the breeder will be putting pictures on her website, and we will be going to see them at about 4 weeks old, so pictures will doubtless ensue from that visit.

As above - that'll likely be a month or so's time.

When once you have gazed into the Abyssinian...

[Which is, oddly, the second time in a week that I've got to perpetrate that pun. First time, I had to go and check that Abyssinia isn't named after an abyss. Which, not. Sadly.]

Next time I'm down your way, I am so coming to play with kittens visit you.

Consider there to be an open invitation.

(With the usual open invitation rules - turning up totally unannounced may be unwise, but we've put guests up overnight on 30 minutes notice before now.)
