Aaaarghh! Tumbling wireframes... Blue Danube... my near-inability to dock without the docking computer...

I was SO bad at that game. :)

Happily for me, I was actually quite good. Since I was the primary play tester (no matter what Francis Spufford might have said), I had to play an awful lot of it, looking out for odd behaviour and outright bugs.

(I considered it my duty to achieve Elite status: after all, we did need to know that nothing catastrophic happened at that point.)

I am duly impressed!

Even today I cannot hear the Blue Danube Waltz without my mind producing the appropriate wireframe graphics. Which is sad, because of course it should be producing 2001 images.

I still need to set up my A5000 again so I can play more Elite. I never played much on the BBC version but I made Elite several times on the Arc version (which worked a lot better, IMO).

I played the BBC version, the Electron version, and the 6502 second processor version (which may or may not have ever been actually released). The Electron version was rather limited, and the 6502-2P version the best of those. But I was gone from Acornsoft before the Archimedes became a product.

One of the things I preferred about the Arc version was that if you were attacked by pirates and defended yourself the police vipers that may turn up didn't kill you as well (well, unless you started killing the police ;)

On the Electron.

(And I have an A5000 in a cardboard box next to my desk. I'm getting itchy trigger fingers)

If I had a tape deck I could connect to it I'd get one of the Beebs out and give it a whirl.
