So, congratulations to the England football team in preserving their 100% record and securing qualification last night with a 5-1 victory against a team that they lost against a mere two years ago.

It's interesting to note that not only have they won all their games in the group, but they're one of only three teams in the European division to have done so. Of the others, the Netherlands and Spain both have slightly stronger defences, having conceded a mere two goals each as opposed to England's 5.

On the other hand, the Dutch scored 19, the Spanish 21, and England scored 31, giving England by far the best goal difference in the entire division.

Well, qualifying is an obvious pre-requisite, one that England hasn't always achieved.

It's going to be down in South Africa, if that helps your plans. Last time, when it was in Berlin, we made the interesting decision to visit Germany during the finals. However, we were at a wine festival over in Freiberg, pretty much as far from Berlin as you can get, and the atmosphere there was pretty good.

A good point, and let's hope they're inspired by the men's team's performance last night

(And not by that team's failure to qualify for last year's European Finals.)

I don't think they've been that impressive since Liverpool England beat Germany by the same margin in 2001.

Good luck to both men's and women's teams in their forthcoming matches.

A women's victory by 5-1 would have a nice symmetry to it. :)

Germany manager to get 2-0 up already, though England have clawed one back to 2-1. And that's in the first 25 minutes.

ETA: Oh dear, currently 6-2. To Germany.
