Subject: Discworld Convention membership is now open
Security: Public
A quick public service announcement: Membership has opened for the Discworld Convention 2010.

(And yes, we're joined. And the membership list is live, so from starting to join through to appearing on the list is a matter of moments.)

I suppose the Treasurer and Membership Secretary should sign up too ;) Will have to prod the kids later, but I am pretty sure they are eager to attend again.

Better do it quick - 15 more people have joined since I posted, so I reckon membership will have to close Saturday morning.

(Gratuitous use of projections? Moi?)

Oh, and no using the Membership Secretariat to get in by the back door!

(The fact that you two were already on the list is a small detail I won't mention again.)

*g* I pre-populated the database with some concom so that the webteam had something to work with and knew what details we wanted to be getting from people.

Oh good. I hope she makes it - IIRC she'll be 80 that year.

She was set on it when I spoke to her at the last Gala Dinner. She wanted to do something incredible costume-wise because of the whole 80th Birthday thing. I really hope she's along too.

Just out of interest, what's up with member 99? G(uest), C(ommittee) and A(ttendant) I can understand, but what's S? Is Marco S(pecial), S(illy), S(word-carrying) or what?

If killing me is required after telling me, you don't have to answer.

'Supporting' is the usual meaning.

(i.e. Joined now, will receive news, able to vote for awards, not able to attend unless an upgrade to Attending is bought, and such an upgrade will be at the prices in effect at original joining. Actual details may vary, but that's common for conventions.)

Ah, yes, of course. I've always thought it should be an O(ption), myself.

It does depend on the convention. For the Worldcons, it's possible that an actual majority of supporting members join with no intention of 'doing the upgrade', because they want the right to choose the Hugo awards, and to vote on site selection.

(The current Worldcon membership supplies electronic copies of a fair proportion of the novels and stories up for the Hugo. It's almost worth having it for that reason alone.)

We're in! I had to wait for OldBloke to confirm he'd like to attend again. And then I had to find my card. Otherwise we'd've been in the first 100!

You're not far outside it.

And if the committee members who have joined, and are in the 51-100 range actually get renumbered into the C range, you should get bumped down a bit.

Yeah, but if I'd pulled my finger out I'd be there by default!

Well, I joined, and then asked, which is why there are already more people who joined after me than before.
