Being two against a hundred thousand, they are forced to flee into the forests of Azeroth, finding shelter with friendly villagers. Eventually, the natives call on their qhal lord for guidance. Morgaine meets with Merir, lord of Shathan, and receives grudging permission to travel where she wills.

OK, all you Warcraft players, what bit of lore are we talking about here?

(More to the point, it's about time I reread some books.)

Well, that's from the first vol of C J Cherryh's Morgaine books, but how it fits the game I know not (I don't play it).

*ting*!

And the answer is that it is indeed nothing whatsoever to do with the game, with the exception that the world in which the game is set is also named Azeroth.

It's too odd a name for it to be purely coincidence, surely? Especially when Blizzard like playing with names - there is a whole family of non-player characters named Mograine.

(We'll ignore Siouxie the Banshee for now. Oh glory, this spellchecker knows about Siouxie.)

First? Isn't Fires of Azeroth #3? (The description reads more like my memories of #3 than #1, certainly.)
