After the events of Girl Genius #6: Agatha Heterodyne and the Golden Trilobite, this volume is a little less confusing, though it is still a volume in a continuing story.

Agatha now knows what's going on, and she's realised that the trilobite she normally wears round her throat protects her from the malign influence of Lucrezia Mongfish. On the other hand, the Baron thinks Agatha is Lucrezia. However, the Baron is laid up in bed after the battle of Sturmhalten, and his son Gilgamesh is much more favourable. But a new power has emerged: someone has produced a false Heterodyne heir, and Agatha now has to save the city of Mechanisberg from her.

At which point, the false heir enters Mechanisberg Castle, a vast, insane, pile that is as much mechanism as fortress. If the false heir can win control of the Castle, she gains control of Mechanisberg. And with the inventive power of Mechanisberg, she could possibly rule Europe. Agatha will have to do something.

This is an episode in a continuing story. By the end of it, Agatha has entered the Castle, but done no more, and the website itself has not yet resolved this plot. We'll need at least another volume, quite probably more, just to complete this tale.
