Subject: This could be expensive
Security: Public
I've been looking at the cost of our trip from Helsinki to Tallinn on Thursday next week.

Well, we could take the ferry. There are plenty of them, and the prices range from €160 for the pair of us down to less than half that. But then something caught my eye.

We could helicopter it for just over €200.

I've never been in a helicopter, and the thought of going in one that's actually going somewhere I want to go is very, very tempting, even if it's appreciably more expensive than the cheap option. And the heli terminals aren't much less convenient than the ferry terminals.

Take the chopper.

I've been in a helicopter once -- tour over Toronto -- and it's worth the money just for the experience. Helicopters are not like fixed-wing aircraft, they're weird.

Damn, I think I'm going to cave on this one. Assuming we can get the luggage weight down (20 kg total allowance - it's €5 per extra kg), that is.

Take the chopper.

There was a man who owned a flying company, who had a summer house in the countryside close to my parents farm, and when flying past he'd stop to refuel, and sometimes pick me up to go visit his son.

They defy physics. They shouldn't manouver like they do, and it shouldn't feel like it does.

Speaking of choppers, we're having two of those trees in the front garden felled. You said, last time you were around, that you wanted the wood if that happened.

We're planning on having it done on Friday, and if you want that wood, you need to reply toute de suite.

What they all said ... check out how much helicopter tours usually cost, deduct the cost of the ferry, and the remaining amount is so much less than the average tour, and as you say, you're actually achieving something in travel rather than returning to the takeoff spot.

Grab every experience while you can, when you can ... you most regret the things you could have done and didn't ... at least I do :-)

A good point. Tours over London seem to go for more per person, for not much more time.

There's less scenery during this one, admitedly, burt the thought orf flying from one capital city to another this way is very tempting. The approach to Tallinn should be good: we'll be able to see St Olav's church from quite a distance. And we can walk from the heliport to the hotel.

Don't I have any friends who acre about my poor credit card? *sob*

The big problem is likely to be luggage allowance. I'll have to check both case weight and case size, since we're doing a little more than the short day or overnight trip that most of their customers are likely to be making.
