It looks like kneejerk reactions to the 'net may have eased off a bit, if the rest of the meeja follow the BBC . Look at these quotes:

The judge: "Although the internet can be a force for very great good it is not always so and its abuse can slip under the guard of parents who are not aware what their children can get involved in while on the web."

The police Chief Inspector: "although the internet undoubtedly helped him to contact the girl, it cannot be blamed for his actions after this point"

Given that this was a case of a 12 year old girl, I can just imagine what the raving loonies at the Mail and similar will report.
