Jerry Holkins (aka Tycho Brahe, the brown haired character, the writer) and Mike Krahulik (aka John Gabriel, or usually just Gabriel these days, the black haired one, the artist) are a pair of gamers who have generated one of the most popular web sites about games, just by producing a couple of strips a week, with some accompanying commentary. They're not particularly reverent about their field. On occasion, they can be distinctly rude, though I do occasionally get the impression that they're much nicer in real life than their on-line presence may lead one to think.
They're also responsible for an annual convention celebrating their work - so they're not exactly modest. On the other hand, their Child's Play appeal has raised a fortune in the cause of making hospital life less boring for children by getting them games.
And they're very respected by their peers - other web cartoonists. That, I think, indicates their real character. They may apparently play hardball on occasion, but it seems they're liked despite that.
So, this is the first collection (well, allegedly) from late 1998 through to the end of 2000. Most of the pages contain two strips, with a short commentary each at the bottom of the page by Tycho. The drawing style is a little rough at first - Gabe's technique hadn't yet got that depth that it has now - but it's more than good enough for the purpose.
