Subject: Is the writers' strike biting?
Security: Public
I ask, because first Letterman made a deal made an independent deal with the WGA, and now a small studio has apparently done so too. Only The Weinstein Company, but these first snow slides could presage the avalanche.

United Artists made an interim deal with the WGA first, so this is the second feature film studio to sign up. There are rumours that several of the smaller studios are close to signing too.

It does make a difference, but all signs indicate that this strike could last several more months yet. The AMPTP doesn't want to budge.

Ah, I wasn't aware of the UA deal. It's good to see them living up to some of their founding principles.

As for how much longer it will be, I'd be surprised if it did all change in the next few weeks - that time scale is too short, considering how long it's taken so far. But each bit of news like this is promising.
