Subject: RIP Gareth 'Nescafé man' Hunt
Security: Public
Gareth Hunt, who would probably prefer to have been remembered for his work in the New Avengers, has died.

That's sad. My mental image of him as the man who stood for suaveness (even if slightly on the cheap side - instant coffee for entertaining? And it was Macnee who was the truly suave one in the New Avengers) doesn't really allow for him ever getting old, let alone dying.

EDIT: title change

Maybe it's a generation thing, but if you say the Nescafe man I always think of Anthony Stewart Head and the gold blend adverts. Hence I was really shocked for a second there.

Ah, good point.

I'd started at the other end of the link, and gone from Hunt to Nescafé rather than the other way around, and never considered the return direction.

Edit coming up

I can't believe it!!!
His ads were the source of what I considered to be a very funny joke when I was younger. You have the shaking of the beans and the question of cream in your coffee - actually it's more of a visual joke but to a teenager it was hysterical.

Uhhuh?

You, young lady, were distinctly disturbed.

On consideration, the past tense may be incorrect.

(It was lovely to see you again over the weekend - though I missed the Octocon auction dance.)

Oh dear, I really trust the pair of you never meet.

(Hinckley 2006 was a near miss. Birmingham, 2008. Hmmm.)

... though the actual slang will probably remain long after the man himself has been forgotten.

I'm now trying to remember which name it was that I suddenly found out had actually belonged to a real person, after years of knowing it from a saying.

Gordon Bennett?

We drove part of the course last week - G. was probably less than happy, considering it's a road I've known since before I could drive and it's a magnificent stretch for praticising driving like a rally drive since it has a load of twisting bends on a hill, but you have oodles of notice of any driver coming towards you if you know where to look.
