The Register reports Guy Kewney's death.

Not everyone reading this would ever have heard of him, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of you actually did know him. He was possibly the old school PC journalist.

He was also the Guy (sorry) who should have been being asked for comment when a certain Guy Goma ended up with a most unusual job interview.

Yep - if you were to remember only one name from those days, it would be his.

Or able to survive (absolutely unscathed) costing his publishers a large sum of money to pay for a new encryption system for Acorn, after he'd published a crack in his column.

The resulting code had a routine in it named FuckGuyKewney ... yes, that was the first time I really registered his name, working as I did for Acornsoft at that time.

I knew of Sophie (though not at the time under that name). But we at Acornsoft were kept separate from the main Acorn bunch - we were a couple of miles away from the HQ - so didn't tend to know the hardware guys.

Hmm, interesting: the WikiPedia page for Sophie Wilson doesn't mention Steve Furber, nor vice versa, though the pair of them worked together pretty much throughout that era, and were jointly responsible for the best that Acorn did, the ARM processor design included.
