I seem to have accidentally ordered two copies of Jo Walton's excellent book Half a Crown.

One from Amazon US, one from Amazon UK.

And the second has just arrived, a few hours after I finished reading the first copy.

I think my mother may be getting it for Christmas. There is much scope here for evilness, given some character naming.

Or I will buy it off you, if you decide evilness and the season of goodwill etc, don't necessarily go together.

Oh, I could do that.

You have, I presume, read the first two? I'm fairly sure my mother hasn't.

Have read Farthing, and Sixpence is on the TBR When Book-Writing Is Done pile.

Utterly brilliant stuff. I used the opening of Farthing at a writing course over the summer, by way of an example of unobtrusive excellence in first person narrative, non-info-dump set up etc.

All three books are brilliant at that. And taken as a whole, there's even more in the sum than in the parts.

I'll bring Half-A-Crown with me then. See you this weekend. (We're in the Park Inn.)
